The goal of the Compensatory Education (Comp Ed) program is to provide funding to reduce disparity in performance on assessment instruments or disparity in the rates of high school completion between at-risk students, and all other students. The Comp Ed program aims to increase academic achievement and reduce the dropout rate for these students by providing compensatory programs and services.
Statutes and correspondence related to the Comp Ed program are listed below.
Under 19 TAC §61.1027, districts and charter schools must report the number of educationally disadvantaged students used to calculate the compensatory education allotment. Students qualify based on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) income guidelines, determined through parent certification, direct certification, or eligibility verification.
