District planning is essential to ensure digital learning opportunities for all students and educators. The State Board of Education's Long Range Plan for Technology provides recommendations to support district and campus planning.
In 2016, Mike Morath, Commissioner of Education and Governor Greg Abbott established the Classroom Connectivity Initiative to assist school districts and charter schools in improving connectivity in Texas public schools. This includes increasing access to broadband networking and expanding the use of Wi-Fi in classroom across the state.
Classroom Connectivity was successful and has ended in 2020.
The E-rate program, created by the Federal Communications Commission, provides schools and libraries affordable access to advanced telecommunications services.
Districts may also use their Instructional Materials Allotment to fund technology.
The state compiles many resources that support digital learning for students and educators.
Educational technology resources are available to schools to assist with planning.
